An ASEAN-focused network to promote digital literacy, encourage digital advocacy & drive e-democracy.

DigTech was recently established in March 2021 by high calibre ASEAN youths from Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar and Indonesia. Prior to this, these individual shave undertaken intensive workshops for 6 months by the YSEALI-KL and TechSoup Asia-Pacic, entailing governance challenges in various institutions ranging from anti-corruption in civil society, the role of media in good governance to the vulnerability in leadership. We consider these workshops as our pilot project training before we execute the implementation of our SE. Our ultimate objective is to increase digital literacy among the youths, in particular, the underprivileged from the rural areas of our respective countries to promote freedom of information and advance advocacy efforts in local contexts. Alongside the COVID-19 restrictions, naturally, we have been adaptive and proactive in advocating through our social media outreach engagement. Within 10 days, our social media engagement spiked to over 700users across 3 countries.

On October 2021, DigTech published an article about inclusive and effective digital education during COVID-19 pandemic. They concluded that the global outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has affected every part of the lives of people and the challenge the pandemic poses to the education sector is profound. During Covid-19 pandemic and school closures, digital education has become the cornerstone of education and pushed moving everything online. Effectively, the shift to digital learning enhances opportunities for an advanced digital classroom environment with online learning tools and conferencing systems. Nonetheless, remote learning also leads to several consequences and vulnerable students from underprivileged communities suffer the most from these changes. Online teaching limits educational opportunities for vulnerable learners with additional obstacles such as lack of access to the internet and digital devices that lead to further inequalities. Thus, digital education amplifies the need to develop policies and digital infrastructures to ensure effective digital learning and more attention to bridging existing and emerging digital divides for more inclusive digital education.
